Support for Thriving Careers
Texas’ strong economy continues to create opportunities across a wide range of industries.
Under Speaker Burrows’ leadership, the Texas House invested in education, workforce training and career pathways that allow Texans succeed in high-demand industries.
- Reduced barriers to higher education by creating Free College Application Week, giving students a chance to apply to Texas public colleges and universities for free (SB 2231)
- Created the Applied Sciences Pathway Program to connect more students with high-demand careers while reducing college costs (HB 20)
- Made it easier for licensed professionals moving to Texas to work in their field without unnecessary delays or red tape (HB 11)
- Helped Texas farmers and ranchers stay in business by expanding financial assistance and access to low-interest loans (HB 43)
- Established the My Texas Future platform to help students and workers connect with education, training and career opportunities in high-demand fields (SB 2314)
- Invested in workforce training programs such as the Skills Development Fund, the Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant programs and the Lone Star Workforce of the Future initiative to help Texans gain skills for in-demand jobs
- Made significant investments in Texas colleges and universities to expand educational opportunities and keep higher education affordable and accessible (SB 1)
- Expanded support for workforce development, apprenticeship programs and vocational rehabilitation services to help more Texans enter the workforce and succeed in high-demand careers (SB 1)

Good-paying jobs start with a strong economy and thriving businesses.
During the 89th Legislative Session, the Texas House reduced barriers to growth, supported innovation and made strategic investments to help Texas remain the nation’s leading destination for jobs and opportunity.
- Modernized Texas business laws to provide greater clarity, reduce unnecessary litigation and make Texas an even more attractive place to start and grow a business (SB 29)
- Created the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office to make it easier for businesses to grow and hire more Texans (SB 14)
- Protected Texas businesses from activist shareholder proposals, helping companies focus on growth and job creation (SB 1057)
- Strengthened Texas’ specialized business court system to provide a more predictable legal environment for businesses and investors (HB 40)
- Invested in key industries that are shaping Texas’ future, including nuclear energy, semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, space exploration and defense-related development (SB 1)
- Dedicated funding for water infrastructure, transportation, aviation and critical infrastructure projects that keep Texas competitive and support continued economic growth (SB 1)
Expanding Opportunities for Texans
Texas’ strong economy is creating opportunities across the state, and Speaker Burrows believes every Texan should have a clear path to a promising job, a successful career and a bright future.
To build on the progress made during the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Burrows has directed House committees to examine ways to strengthen regulatory consistency so businesses can grow, invest and create jobs with greater certainty.
Lawmakers are also identifying ways to enhance workforce training, reduce barriers to employment, support small businesses and job creators, and address workforce shortages in critical fields such as healthcare, education, law enforcement and the skilled trades.
The Texas House is laying the groundwork for another productive session in 2027 focused on helping more Texans gain new skills, find good-paying jobs and achieve the American Dream.
