AUSTIN, Texas — Speaker of the Texas House Dustin Burrows today issued a proclamation for the House Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding and appointed nine House members to serve on it. Chaired by Representative Ken King, the House’s select committee will have jurisdiction over state policy for natural disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
“As we continue to mourn the innocent lives lost and pray for those impacted by the Hill Country flooding, the House is ready to better fortify our state against future disasters,” said Speaker Burrows. “I am confident Representative King will be effective as the chairman of this select committee, having led the House on legislation during the regular session to improve our state’s disaster response and enhance protections for Texas communities. I thank the members of the committee for getting to work on this important issue and look forward to collaboration with the Texas Senate to deliver results.”
Speaker Burrows appointed the following members to serve on the House Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding:

- Representative Joe Moody
- Representative Wes Virdell

The first hearing will take place with the Senate’s select committee at the Capitol on July 23. The second hearing will take place the following week in Kerrville to give residents, first responders, and local officials an opportunity to have their voices heard.
