AUSTIN, Texas – Speaker of the Texas House Dustin Burrows today issued supplemental interim charges focused on empowering Texas women and families with greater access to the resources and care to address their distinct healthcare needs. The Texas House Committee on Public Health has been charged with identifying opportunities to enhance preventive efforts and early detection of hormone imbalances, studying access to hormone replacement therapy, reviewing newborn insurance coverage and prenatal nutrition, and strengthening services and resources for women and families.
“Every Texan deserves high-quality healthcare informed by the latest medical research and tailored to their individual needs and those of their families,” said Speaker Burrows. “The Texas House has made tremendous progress in expanding access to care for more Texans across the state, and these new interim charges will take that work a step further by focusing on the unique health needs of women. Upon referring the interim charges to the Public Health Committee, I have asked Chair Gary VanDeaver to appoint a new subcommittee to be chaired by Representative Katrina Pierson, which will include Representatives Elizabeth Campos and Joanne Shofner. I want to thank these committee members for their commitment to ensuring Texas continues to put women and families first.”
To study these critical issues, Public Health Committee Chairman VanDeaver will create a Subcommittee on Maternal Health, Menopause and Access to Evidence-Based Medicine, consisting of the following House members:
- Representative Katrina Pierson, Chair
- Representative Elizabeth Campos
- Representative Joanne Shofner
