Interim Charges Strengthened by Creation of Three New Select Committees
AUSTIN, Texas — Speaker of the Texas House Dustin Burrows today issued interim charges for House committees of the 89th Texas Legislature, outlining priorities to guide legislative work ahead of the 90th Texas Legislature in 2027. The charges build on recent legislative successes, enhance accountability, eliminate inefficiencies, ensure effective implementation of key priorities, and lay the groundwork for another productive session next year.
Speaker Burrows also announced the creation of three new select committees: the House Select Committee on Governmental Oversight, the House Select Committee on Health Care Affordability, and the House Select Committee on General Aviation.
“Following a legislative session defined by historic solutions, it is critical the Texas House remains engaged in thoughtful policymaking and oversight as our state continues to grow and advance,” said Speaker Burrows. “These interim charges reflect a commitment to building on that progress while further empowering committee chairs to identify fraud, waste, and abuse and safeguard taxpayer dollars.
“House committees are charged with strengthening Texas’ economy and improving affordability through further tax relief, regulatory reform, and efforts to reduce insurance costs. The House will continue prioritizing commonsense public safety measures, enhancing emergency response and coordination, and reinforcing protections against our foreign adversaries. Members will also identify new opportunities to support Texas teachers and students, preparing Texans for success in high-demand careers. As our state grows, we must safeguard critical resources while responsibly embracing innovation to ensure that growth benefits all Texans. Additionally, three new select committees have been created to address issues central to government accountability, health care access, and rural economic development. Above all, the House will remain focused on championing families, businesses, and the opportunity that drives Texas. I am grateful to our committee chairs and all who contributed their insight to this process, and I encourage Texans to stay engaged by following the House’s work as we approach next session.”
